What Happens during Thermage Skin Tightening Procedure

Thermage treatments, which are performed only by Thermage-certified personnel, average about an hour for the face and two hours for other parts of the body, depending on the size, location and condition of the area to be treated.

  • During the procedure, a handheld device is pressed against your skin to safely deliver heat to the inner layers, at the same time cooling the surface of the skin.
  • Each time the device touches your skin, you’ll feel a brief cooling sensation, followed by a deep but brief heating sensation, followed by another cooling sensation.

The heating sensation is a sign that the deep layers of your skin are reaching effective temperatures for tightening.

  • Throughout the procedure, your physician will ask for feedback on the level of heat sensation to help balance your comfort with maximum results.
  • After treatment, your skin may be slightly red, but most people resume regular activities immediately after treatment. There’s no recovery time or special follow-up care.

How will I feel during and after my Thermage treatment?

During your Thermage procedure, with each pulse, you’ll feel a cooling sensation on your skin, followed by a brief deep and intense heating sensation, and then another cooling sensation.

After your non-invasive Thermage procedure, you can resume your daily tasks since you don’t need downtime for recovery. Since this treatment heats so deeply and effectively, one treatment is often enough for patients to see collagen-stimulation results.

Results can be witnessed immediately up until a full year. Most patients begin to see tightening and contouring after about 2-6 months.
