How Does Laser Hair Removal Work?

Specialized handheld lasers target the dark pigments of your hair with pulsing light. The light generates heat which is then absorbed and transmitted to your hair follicles, destroying them and preventing hair regrowth. (We ask you to shave  before treatment to ensure the laser energy is focused on the follicle to maximize effectiveness.)

Note: your hair must be in an active growth stage for the treatment to be effective. Multiple laser hair removal treatments are needed, spaced about a month apart, to optimize hair removal as it naturally cycles through active and inactive growth stages.

How To Prepare for Laser Hair Removal

While we recommend shaving before treatment, you should avoid tweezing, waxing, or bleaching at least two weeks beforehand. Since the laser machine targets the follicles surrounding the roots of the hair, they must be intact for the treatment to work.

How Long Does Laser Hair Removal Last?

After a series of laser hair removal treatments, results are considered permanent. If some hair eventually does begin to grow back, it will be finer and lighter, making it significantly less noticeable. Should you require any maintenance service to treat these areas, the BodyLase Guarantee offers our clients 50% discounts for future touch-ups — for life!

Laser Hair Removal Aftercare

As one of the most popular hair removal treatments available, the laser hair removal process is designed to be gentle and efficient, with minimal recovery time. Here’s what you can expect after your treatment:

  • You may experience temporary redness, itching, and swelling in the treated area.
  • Laser hair removal generally doesn’t require any significant downtime.
  • Your skin will be more sensitive to sunlight between treatments and after your final session.
  • Avoid sun exposure to prevent potential skin damage and to ensure optimal treatment results.

At BodyLase, we’re committed to providing you with the best possible experience and results. Always feel free to contact us if you have any questions or concerns about your aftercare.

Laser Hair Removal for Dark Skin

Laser hair removal works well for all skin types and tones. When it comes to laser hair removal for dark skin, technological advancements have made it possible for the laser to bypass the pigments in the skin and target deep into the hair follicle itself. The result is a safe, harmless solution for permanent hair removal — no matter your skin tone.

Laser Hair Removal FAQS

Your service provider will begin by cleansing the treatment area. You will be given protective eyewear, and the procedure will begin. Most patients describe the laser pulses as warm pinpricks or mild pinching. You may notice a sulfuric, burning scent. This is the smell of your hair being vaporized, and it is completely normal. Depending on the size of the area being treated, treatment may be as quick as 15 minutes (for small areas like the upper lip) or up to 60 minutes (for large areas like the back).

The time between laser hair removal treatments will vary from patient to patient, but generally speaking, it is safe to schedule your procedures every 4 to 6 weeks. When you consult with an experienced BodyLase provider, they will evaluate your treatment results and schedule recurring appointments to ensure optimal results and safety.

Laser hair removal is an effective option for most individuals. Here’s what you need to know:

Not ideal for: If you have red, blonde, or white hair, other hair removal options might be more suitable. A complimentary consultation with a BodyLase consultant will ensure the treatment is right for you.

Skin types: Our treatment works effectively on all skin types and tones.

Hair color: Best results are achieved with dark hair.

Because the laser targets pigments in the hair, dark hair colors (black, dark brown, brown) absorb more of its energy and respond best to laser hair removal
