Hair Removal

Laser hair removals and wedding bells go hand in hand—this much is certain. Smooth underarms are a must for the big day just as smooth bikini lines are ideal for honeymoon getaways. It’s such a natural pairing that the timing of laser hair removal treatments is often overlooked. Many make the mistake of leaving hair removal sessions to the very last minute. But if you want to be perfectly hair-free, you should schedule enough time for around 4-7 sessions. Are you a laser hair removal rookie? Here are some more essential laser hair removal tips.

Skin Rejuvenation

When basic skincare and great nutrition aren’t enough, there are rejuvenating facials. So the only skincare mystery left is – Which facial is right for you? At BodyLase, we look for the answer in your skin. Is it begging you to fend off fine wrinkles? Is it screaming for acne-scar or broken capillary correction? Is it pleading for improved texture and tone? Whatever it needs, a specific facial can deliver. Come in for a free consultation to find out if IPL photofacials, laser facials, microdermabrasion, or corrective skin peels are right for you.

Feathery Lashes

Brides want that my-face-at-its-very-best look on their wedding day. Nothing over-the-top, just your own natural beauty. So why fake those lashes with extensions, mascara, and falsies when you can flaunt your own luscious lashes? Latisse gives you all the volume, definition and length a girl could ever want. It’s such an effective way to enhance those eyes that it’s become so popular with bride-to-be. But many make the mistake of committing to the Latisse routine way too late in the game. Nurture and grow your lashes well before your wedding day so that your expressive eyes will speak volumes. While results can appear just after 2-3 weeks, optimal length and volume occur after 3 months of use.

Beautiful Smile

What’s the most important wedding day accessory? It can sum up your feelings without a single word. It can make your groom weak at the knees. It’ll also show up in every wedding photo.
Your smile. So after you get your teeth whitened, don’t forget to pamper all that frames your beautiful pearly whites. Smile-induced wrinkles can easily add years and unwanted phantom emotions to your wedding day grin. Marionette lines and crow’s feet can be erased with Botox, while deep tear troughs and lip wrinkles can be tempered with dermal fillers.

Plump Up

A little added oomph—it’s what fillers can give your lips. Thanks to the natural results of hyaluronic fillers like Juvederm, lip plumping for brides is becoming more and more common. Some choose to redefine thinned lips while others add a little bounce to small lips. But whatever you do, don’t forget to schedule a wedding makeup test-run after your treatment. Fuller lips might not need as much gloss. And newly defined lips might not require so much lipstick. Come in to find out how we can perfect your pout for your big day.

Refreshing Facial

There’s no better way to unwind on the day before your wedding than a with facial. A perfect pre-wedding pick-me-up. But the type of facial is key! The goal of a pre-wedding day facial is achieve a glow, not to overhaul or correct the skin. So remember to stay far away from facials that could cause redness and peeling. And steer clear of all facials requiring down time. Trade them for gentle facials with minimal exfoliation, if any. All you want from pre-wedding day facial is a moment to hydrate your skin and relax your mind.

Erase Your Inky Past

Once upon a time, you had some pins pummel pigments deep into your skin. Sadly while the image remains, your initial sentiments certainly don’t. BodyLase has the best way to free you from your inky regrets.

Our Medlite laser, the gold standard of the tattoo removal industry, is the perfect way to polish your body canvas into a picture-free state. Now you can rid yourself of the ghosts of boyfriends past, in ink-form of course, or simply wipe away an old feathered and fading tattoo.

This advanced technology accurately targets tattoo ink in a quick and easy session that leaves zero scarring.

Introducing Medlite Laser

Haunted by your tattoo? But too disturbed by the horror stories of tattoo removals gone bad? Erase those outdated images from you mind and picture this: your beautiful skin just as radiant as it was pre-inkage.

Modern science has granted us a laser technology that is far more effective in tattoo removal that previous procedures. Unlike the pain and scarring that results from surgical excision and dermabrasion, the results from this Medlite laser have pleased thousands of tattoo removal patients.

How does tattoo removal work?

So just how does this laser blitz away once-permanent pictographs without a trace? A laser specifically calibrated to the color of your tattoo ink is applied to your skin. The laser then penetrates the skin to directly target the ink. The energy from the laser gently breaks down the ink into micro-particles. These particles are naturally filtered out of your body.

How does tattoo removal feel?

To start, our experts apply a lotion to numb the surface of your skin. As the laser zaps away your old unwanted ink, you’ll feel a light rubberband-type snap followed by the sensation of warmth. Many patients say that the experience is much like getting the original tattoo. Now there’s a way to relive some old memories!

What happens after a tattoo removal session?

As the laser zaps those tattoo pigments, your skin is temporarily whitened. After the procedure, some of the particles rise to the surface and are expelled through the skin in the form of a scab. Most of the pigment, however, is simply filtered out of your body naturally.

What kinds of tattoos can be removed?

The Medlite laser features specially calibrated wavelengths—each targets a specific pigment. This means a variety of tattoo colors can be obliterated with our tattoo removal sessions. However the simpler the tattoo, the easier it is to remove. With more complex ink-jobs, more than the typical 6 tattoo removal sessions might be required.

So whether you want to scrub your skin of old, unwanted memories or simply erase a much-loved tattoo that’s lots its once-crisp shape, our Raleigh-Durham spas have the sophisticated Medlite laser and extensive tattoo removal experience to get you tattoo-free.

Acne-Prone Skincare Guide

The trick to managing acne-prone skin is balancing cleanliness with moisture. Acne often occurs because of bacteria and oil production. To ensure your skin is free of all acne-causing bacteria, your must cleanse. And to ensure your skin doesn’t produce too much oil, you must not forget to moisturize.

Morning Routine

Wash your face with a gentle cleanser that contains bacteria-fighting and sebum-managing ingredients. Salicylic acid is a favorite among acne-prone women. After cleansing, pat skin dry and immediately apply a light moisture-locking face lotion (with SPF, of course!).

Evening Routine

After you’ve spent so much time and effort putting on your makeup, to simply wash it away in 5 minutes seems like hassle. But off it must come if you want to maintain a healthy complexion. Clarisonic skincare brushes are an easy, fun way to clean skin gently and thoroughly. As a bonus, the light exfoliating action helps scrub away any excess skin cells, another common acne-causing villain.

Lifestyle Tip

Perfect for teens struggling with less-than-perfect skin is the Glytone Acne Kit, which offers a formidable acne-fighting trio. Glytone Exfoliating Gel Wash features a 4.7% concentration of glycolic acid that effectively clears away dead skin cells and balances oil production. Glytone Acne Cleansing Toner includes 2% salicylic acid, which delivers a deep cleanse to congested skin. Glytone Acne Gel, with 10% benzoyl peroxide, is the perfect spot treatment. Alternatively, Glytone Acne Gel can be applied as a very thin layer all over to manage breakout-crazed skin.

Special Treatment

Fulfilling your dreams of wanting to simply zap the acne out of your life is DUSA Blu-U. This blue light treatment delivers a unique fluorescent light that kills bacteria-causing acne. Painless and effective, this treatment clears acne with 17-minute sessions twice a week. Smooth breakout-free skin is usually achieved around 5 weeks.

To fulfill your glowing wishes with a Clarisonic brush or Glytone Acne Kit, come by our BodyLase spas or give us a call.

Combination Skincare Guide

Dry patches and a grease slick, oily skin and flakes. Oh, the woes of managing combination skin! These problems often plague women in their twenties, still battling acne as the onslaught of dryness and wrinkles only just commence. The trick with combination skin is figuring out your different zones and treating them accordingly.

Morning Routine

After cleansing apply a light face lotion all over. You should select a lotion that’s so light that it won’t clog your oily areas. Then focusing on your dry areas, pat a more substantial moisturizer like a serum or moisturizing gel. The extra moisture will help keep these areas flake-free.

Evening Routine

Though it’s tempting to ignore your oily regions, don’t forget to apply your moisturizing lotion once again. Skipping the moisturizer altogether could make your oily regions more oily as they try to overcompensate for the dryness. But keeping it light on the oily regions will stop these regions from clogging. Now for the fun part: carefully smooth a rich night cream into your dry regions only for extra comfort.

Lifestyle Tip

Unfortunately, combination skin gals need a double-time skincare routine since combination skin needs a little from both ends of the skincare spectrum. So be sure to have some eye creams and acne-fighting cleansers at hand. The eye cream will help you fend off dry, wrinkly skin around your eyes, while acne-fighting washes will help you decongest your oily regions when a breakout threatens.

Special Treatment

A great balancing treatment for combination skin is the VI Peel. This treatment reduces fine wrinkles and sun damage while simultaneously clearing up breakouts and acne scarring. For the holiday season, the VI Peel is a great way to get fresh faced before your string of parties. And lucky for you, this peel is especially loved because it delivers in just one session! Just be sure to schedule your VI Peel a few weeks before you want to unveil you new smooth complexion.

Aging Skincare Guide

Though it’s now recommended that anti-aging precautions be taken earlier than ever, it’s never too late to start fending off wrinkles. Even at the first signs of aging—faint wrinkles, a decrease in collagen, and some sightings of photodamage—the right routine can give you the perfect glow. In the beginning phases of aging, your skin is still naturally resilient. As a result, it will respond well to a cocktail of resurfacing and renewing products.

Morning Routine

Let your skincare routine work for you throughout the day. After cleansing, apply an alpha hydroxy acid cream and then slather on a moisturizer with UVA/UVB protection. Alpha hydroxy acid cream will help reduce fine wrinkles by prompting collagen formation.

Evening Routine

Don’t lose an opportunity to regenerate new skin at night! Integrating a retinoid cream into your nightly routine can help reduce photodamage. As an essential antioxidant, retinoids not only counteracts sun damage, they also prompts your skin to regenerate skin cells faster. This gives your skin a youthful, healthy glow while also reducing wrinkles. Just be careful to restrict retinoids for evening use only, as they increase sun sensitivity.

Lifestyle Tip

The bronzed lure of tanning is probably not so strong now the realities of sun damage have started to appear. So though you probably don’t need reminding, we’ll say it anyway: be sure to use sunscreen daily and avoid prolonged, direct sun exposure. For those who can’t avoid the warm glow, we think it’s high time to invest in some cute cover ups.

Special Treatment

As the first signs of aging set in there are slew of problems to juggle. Luckily, microdermabrasion is an excellent exfoliating renewal treatment that will tackle all these skin problems. A series of microdermabrasion sessions can smooth and improve dull, aging and hyperpigmented skin. With gentle, yet effective exfoliating crystals, this treatment reduces fine lines and poor texture, while stimulating the production of collagen.

Mature Skincare Guide

Fending off wrinkles becomes quite the feat once menopause commences. Deeper grooves settle in and a natural drop in estrogen prompts a dry skin phase, making wrinkle-management a tricky task. The constant use of acids won’t be enough to rejuvenate your glow. So while an amped up dosage of retinoids and topical vitamin C is recommended, deeper moisturizers are a must. Look to rich creams and serums—they’ll be your very best friends!

Morning Routine

After cleansing, use a rich moisturizer and topical vitamin C. As a rich moisturizer, we recommend SkinSelect MD Honey Soy Crème. This rich formula is designed to add moisture to dry, dehydrated skin, making it particularly beneficial for those experiencing hormonal fluctuations during menopause. Soy isoflavones, honey and bee pollen extracts work to balance skin while Siberian ginseng extract revitalizes. Vitamin C, on the other hand, is an effective antioxidant that will tighten your skin, stimulate collagen production, and brighten and balance skin pigmentation.

Evening Routine

Amp up the use of retinoids and the results will be visible. Retinoids, which prompt your skin to produce new skin cells, will help your skin regenerate faster. Prolonged use of retinoids decreases fine wrinkles and smoothes your skin texture.

Lifestyle Tip

An active lifestyle isn’t only beneficial for your health and your body. Integrating running or cycling into your weekly schedule can actually help your skin glow brighter. Aerobic exercise prompts blood flow to the skin and boosts the rate of new cell growth. As a result, wrinkle formation can be prevented with good exercise habits. And in the meantime, you can enjoy the healthy, vigorous glow that each workout gives you.

Special Treatment

Age and gravity have one thing in common: with time they make things falls. Mature skin often sees that the areas around our eyes, cheeks and jaws begin to drop, wrinkle, and hang. Though topical creams may not be much use to these regions, Thermage is a perfect option. A single Thermage session delivers a non-invasive skin-contouring laser to those lackluster regions and tightens, firms and smoothes them. Alternatively Fraxel is a great treatment for rejuvenating lackluster skin that’s plagued with bad texture, hyperpigmentation, and wrinkles.

Deeply hydrate your skin with SkinSelect MD Honey Soy Crème and our choice of vitamin C serums, by stopping by our BodyLase spas.

November’s $499 Face Special

The older we get, the older we look. That’s just the way it goes. Unfortunately, there is no fountain of youth, but that hasn’t stopped people from trying to slow the aging process.

At BodyLase we offer three different techniques to help you stay young looking.

Microdermabrasion is skin-care technique to have crossed over from Hollywood to the mainstream. It’s being advanced as an “instant facelift”. Microdermabrasion is a general term for the application of tiny rough grains to buff away the surface layer of skin.

A chemical peel uses chemicals to literally peel away layers of skin. Chemical peels have the ability to make you look younger by eliminating the appearance of skin imperfections such as sunspots and acne scars.

Fraxel Laser is a safe, non-invasive procedure that allows you to rediscover the fresh, healthy skin of your youth with little to no downtime. Results you can see and feel. Improve texture and pore size. Erase unwanted brown spots. Smooth wrinkles around the eyes and acne scars. Fraxel Laser Treatment promotes your skin’s own healing process, resulting in natural rejuvenation that removes years from your appearance. Fraxel is a non-invasive treatment that is effective for all skin types.

Our Aestheticans can help you determine which treatment would be most effective for your skin type and problem areas. So make an appointment now and save money in November.

For $499 choose:

  • One Fraxel Face OR
  • Six Microderabrasion OR
  • Six Chemical Peels OR
  • Three Microdermabrasions and Three Chemical Peels

Class Act: Study Up For Your Reunion

You probably know by now the host problems that can come with class reunions. Romy and Michele graciously demonstrated the more serious offenses for us in 1997. Only to save us from committing the same reunion crimes, of course. So before you’re off to your own high school or alma mater shindig, let’s review those key lessons. Number one: you’ll be outed if you wrongly claim the ingenious invention of the Post-it. Number two: business suits worn to class reunions are not so hot. Bonus lesson: Mini sheaths adorned with feathers in sparkly pink and blue are also not so hot for class reunions.

But here are a few things about reunions you might not already know. Class reunions are actually quite enjoyable. They present the opportunity to catch up with your besties from the good old days and share all those years that weren’t documented by schoolbook scribbles folded into secret notes. And ahhh, the reminiscing! Don’t say we didn’t warn you, because collectively remembering times that were once filled with hope, promise, and youthful skin will definitely happen.

Just one word of advice though: don’t just remember how good you looked, look as good as you feel on this special occasion! Cast off those years with some helpful tips from BodyLase.

  • Exercise is always good. We all know it. But a busy family life and professional schedule can easily take priority most weeks. So just in preparation for this occasion, try your hardest to work your schedule around an extra 30 minutes of focused exercise three times a week. You’ll body will feel better and look it too.
  • Consider a mini-makeover. No we’re not suggesting you do a full overhaul. (And hey, ladies, you probably don’t need it!) All that’s needed is a careful look in the mirror, so you can tend to any grooming oversights that have accrued over the past few busy months. Touch up those roots, get a flattering haircut, or ask a makeup artist for advice on whether you’re wielding your makeup palette to its full potential.
  • Just days before the big hoopla, don’t forget to tend to your tips. Schedule a mani-pedi combo in advance, and use the appointment to treat yourself with calm relaxation and positive thinking. Envision the great time you’re going to have with old friends. See how we just did that—two birds with one stone?
  • Many photos will be taken. And there’s a great possibility you’ll be in them! So to care for your Cheshire cat grin, look into teeth whitening. And if you’ve got parentheses forming around your smile, find out about how dermal fillers can make your smile younger.
  • Improve the quality of your skin at home. Obagi skin care system offers hydroquinone, the powerful gold standard in treating skin discoloration. The Obagi brand’s hydroquinone penetrates below the skin’s surface to transform skin cell functions at the cellular level and correct the damage within. The result: healthy, younger-looking skin revealed. So what are our favorite Obagi picks? Obagi Clear is a topical treatment that includes 4% hydroquinone to correct hyperpigmentation, even skin tone, and improve overall appearance starting from within. Obagi Blender is another high quality topical treatment that contains 4% hydroquinone. It’s built not only to target hyperpigmented areas of the skin but also to increase the penetration of its active ingredients into your skin.
  • If you’re skin needs major renewal don’t just settle for letting your old photos show you up! To help you on this one, thankfully there’s a simple way to pump youth back into those cells. A series of IPL Photofacials or Fraxel treatments can push away those wrinkles, rid you of lingering acne scars, and clear your face of age spots or sun discoloration. Contact us to find out what treatment will work best for you.

SEPTEMEBER SPECIAL

To help you prep for your reunion, we’re offering a September special. Buy three IPL Photofacial treatments and get a fourth FREE (savings of $300). Or buy three Fraxel Treatments to get your fourth FREE (savings of $850). Also you can buy a Thermage face treatment, get a Fraxel face treatment FREE (savings of $850). Contact us to find out whether Fraxel or IPL Photofacial treatments could be right for your rejuvenation.

If there’s one rule to sum up this series of reunion tips, it’s this: you’re loving life and why not let everyone know it!

Sun Scares Be Gone: Enjoy Sun Without the Pain

You are so set for summertime fun that you’re practically already horizontal on a lounge chair. But beware of the sun scares!

May is Skin Cancer Awareness Month. So BodyLase is promoting good habits for reducing your risks of melanoma, the most serious of sun scares, as well as other sun problems. Everyone loves a little sun. That’s why every time you step out of the shade it’s important to manage your risks. Check out this guide to find out how we chase away the sun scares.

Skin Cancer Awareness

Sun. It’s undeniably wonderful. Thanks to that golden orb in the sky we can enjoy longer days, ripe fruit and weekends at the beach. But oy, those sun problems! The worst problem being skin cancer. One out of every 3 cancer patients suffers from skin cancer. It’s the most common cancer in the world. In this year alone, around 65,000 people will die from skin cancer.

As you throw on your suit and sunnies, remember to the following:

  • Grab some shade! Avoid peak sun times between 10 am to 4 pm.
  • Cover up! Bare shoulders are often the most obvious victims to sunburns. But skin cancer does not discriminate. Be sure to watch out for your face, legs, tummy, and back. Care for them just as much as you take care to cover up your shoulders.
  • Slather up! When you do plan to get some sun, be sure to apply high levels of SPF protection. For more info on sunscreen that’s works for your skin type and needs, check out these mineral-based sunscreens.

All in all, be smart about your summer sun time. Or as Skin Cancer Foundation advises, just go with your own glow!

Pigment Puzzles Solved

No matter your complexion, it’s important to take cover. “There’s a misconception that if you have darker skin, you will not get melanoma,” says Dr. Claudio Dansky Ullmann, a researcher at the National Cancer Institute. Naturally pigmented skin is, of course, less sensitive to the sun. But just because you might not burn like your porcelain buddy sitting beside you, this doesn’t mean you’re immune to the sun scares. So, no matter your skin type, be wary of your sun time!

Internal Damage Rescue

Who knew that delicious melon wedges could combat the effects of sun damage!

UV rays cause your cells to experience oxidative stress. And in turn oxidative stress can lead to diseases like skin cancer. Antioxidants can help your cells reverse nasty oxidative damage. Lucky for us, some of our most favorite foods is filled with antioxidizing super powers. Cantaloupe is chock full of superoxide dismutase, an important enzymatic antioxidant. Other great antioxidizing food choices include green tea (thanks to the antioxidizing effects of flavinoids), tomatoes (lycopene), red grapes (resveratrol and quercetin), and spinach (lutein).

Reversing Tell-Tale Signs

Sun damage rears its ugly head in many forms. Hyper-pigmentation, rough skin, sun spots, and wrinkles are some common offenders. At BodyLase there are various ways to reduce the appearance of sun damage. Facial peels can help gently slough off the topmost layers of damaged skin. For more intensive treatments, check out other procedures including IPL Photofacial (which reduces spots and uneven pigmentation caused by sun damage) and Fraxel (which tightens and smoothes saggy, leathery, wrinkled skin resulting from long-term sun damage).

Hollywood’s Star Procedures

The 83rd Annual Academy Awards ceremony is fast approaching. And we’re gripping the edges of our seats for a parade of gowns and flawless looks. But just how much of this gilded perfection do we owe to medicine?

We’ve long suspected that nearly everyone in Hollywood has been under the knife. Luckily, the media has helped us confirm some of the more obvious changes: Ashley Simpson’s rhinoplasty, LeAnn Rime’s breast augmentation, and Heidi Montag’s marathon surgical makeover.

Now that non-invasive procedures are so prolific, changes are often too subtle. They go undetected. With the help of medical experts, we identify the pet procedures of Hollywood’s elite. Find out what the beaming beauties of this year’s Oscars have been up to!

Beyonce’s Fave Procedure

While there’s been speculation that she’s had a breast augmentation and a fat transfer to her rear, there’s no doubt that this woman keeps herself fabulously fit. With intense dance skills and global tours that keep her body in tip-top condition, she looks flawless! Invasive procedural speculations aside, what non-invasive enhancement does Beyonce love?

Lash Extensions! Passing up the falsies, Beyonce goes for a softer, more seamless look with diva-length extensions.

Nicole Kidman’s Fave Procedure

Though she continues to deny it, we all know her favorite indulgence. This blushing beauty loves to credit her glowing, serene looks to genetics. But if she’s only tried Botox once, as she claims, it sure was one potent syringe! Nicole Kidman’s alleged one-time flirting with Botox is, truth be told, a full-fledged love affair. Keeping her forehead smooth to shows off her pristine porcelain complexion, Kidman gives herself regular de-stressing boosts with Botox.

Other screen sirens aren’t as bashful about Botox. Kylie Minogue openly admits that she’s just like the rest of us: in need of a little nudge in the wrinkle-free direction. Vanessa Williams also fesses up to having benefited from Botox: “I certainly do Botox, which I definitely think that almost every woman that I know has. […] And it’s a miracle drug, no cutting, nothing.”

What do you think about coy Kidman’s Botox denials? Think Hollywood stars should be open about their procedures?

Scarlett Johansson’s Fave Procedure

Think her classic beauty is just too good to be true? Well, get ready for a surprise! Experts say that Scarlett has probably never undergone a breast augmentation and her lips are just naturally bee-stung. (Photos from her teenage years can help prove it!)

With all that natural beauty, Scarlett’s not one to scoff at enhanced beauty! She says, “I will definitely have plastic surgery. I don’t want to be an old hag. I think if you’re comfortable with yourself, that’s sexy. But if you’re not, then go for it.” So natural and yet so honest! You gotta admire her boldness!

Brad Pitt’s Fave Procedure

Famous women are promptly placed under the scrutinizing light of the public. But men are rarely questioned for their aesthetically-enhanced choices. Recently though it’s been exposed that Brad Pitt relishes in the bliss of enhanced youth.

Weathered down by a demanding schedule and an exponentially multiplying brood, Brad’s face has been looking sallow, wrinkled, and dried out as of late. But last year Brad magically reappeared one day with fresher skin! Dr. Jennifer Walden, a Manhattan plastic surgeon, comments that Brad is looking “fresh-faced and years younger […] His skin is shinier and there are fewer wrinkles on his face, which indicates he had a resurfacing procedure, like a laser called Fraxel or a chemical peel.”

Fraxel is a resurfacing laser procedure that helps reduce scarring, pigmentation and wrinkles. What are your thoughts about Brad’s revival? Love it or hate it?

Jennifer Aniston’s Fave Procedure

Some women are internationally renowned for their plush pout. (Hello, Angelina Jolie!) Tight-lipped actresses rarely get such attention. But you’d be surprised to hear that most women under Hollywood’s spotlight have enjoyed a little lip action!

When we think ‘lips like cushions’ we rarely think of Jennifer Aniston. But this golden girl has received Juvederm treatments which enhance her lips in the most natural way. Comparing before and after pictures, there’s no denying that a natural-looking lift thanks to Juvederm has softened Aniston’s fine, delicate features.

What other celebrities have received lip augmentations via dermal fillers? Megan Fox, Lindsay Lohan, Kim Kardashian, and Angelina Jolie! Though they all have great pouts naturally (or should we say, originally), you’d be hard-pressed to find a medical aesthetic expert who’d disagree that they’ve gotten a little help!

Britney Spears’ Fave Procedure

This comeback popstar has finally hurdled the hard times. To get back into shape after an up-and-down spell, Britney Spears says she’s worked out, danced, and maintained a healthy diet. But medical experts say that her rapid (and smooth) turnaround is probably also enhanced by a little medical help. With SmartLipo, Britney has probably reduced those hard-to-hit pockets on her inner thighs, outer hips, and tummy.

SmartLipo is a minimally invasive laser-enhanced lipo procedure. What are your thoughts? Was Britney’s physical comeback thanks to mother nature or SmartLipo?

Madonna’s Fave Procedure

This woman is a machine. At 52, Madonna can still keep up with the youngest. With gravity-defying dance moves and yoga moves to kill, she’s built physical strength that you can see. But somehow Madonna has also managed to stave of wrinkles and skin sagging.

Experts say that Madonna’s youthful arms and neck can be the wonderful results of Thermage. Thermage laser beams help stimulate collagen production and tighten skin in aged or pre-maturely sagging areas.

What are your thoughts on Madonna’s age-defying looks? Love it or hate it? Share your thoughts below!

Celebrity Skin Foods

Bringing skin up to red carpet standards requires taking care of yourself from the inside out! Nutritionists are discovering more and more that our food choices are written all over our faces. So after putting all that thought into moisturizers and cleansers, we should also evaluate our eating habits. Do your meals benefit or harm your skin?

Discover how celebrities nutritionally combat some of the most common skin woes. And learn how to eat your way to a beautiful visage!

Eat Away Your Facial Collagen

Renowned celebrity dermatologist Dr. Jessica Wu shares some great tips in her latest book Feed Your Face. She explains why snacking does a body good: healthy snacks every 3-4 hours can help you stave off any indulgent food choices. (Um, donuts and Frappuccinos, we’re mainly talking about you!) But even healthy foods can be dangerous.

Foods high in fructose “eat away skin’s collagen and elastin, which can cause thinning and sagging as well as fine lines and wrinkles,” says Dr. Wu. So she warns busy actresses who go through their work days only on apple slices. Why apple slices? The amount of fructose in two apples equals the amount of sugar in a can of soda!

To preserve collagen does Dr. Wu recommend avoiding fructose all together? She says when eating high-fructose foods, eat some protein and healthy fats to reduce the harmful effects.

Are you an apple lover? What other kinds of high-fructose foods are you guilty of eating frequently?

Irregular Meals Cause Mystery Rash

Dr. Wu says that eating irregularly or meal skipping can cause insulin levels to spike. Insulin surges, she states, have been linked to acne, rashes, redness and wrinkles. And apparently dairy products can also cause insulin levels to rise drastically—resulting in increased oil production. That’s why she recommends that fashion mogul and former model Kimora Lee Simmons not skip morning and afternoon meals in lieu of her beloved mocha Frappuccino.

Will you try tackling any mystery skin problems by eating regularly and laying off the sugary slips and snacking sprees?

Drink Your Way to Dry Skin

Celebrity aesthetician Kate Somerville helps celebrity clients achieve glowing, hydrated skin not only with her miracle products, but also with helpful nutritional tips. First, the fundamental tip we know so well: drink plenty of water so that your skin gets hydrated! But what if you’re a hydration-maniac but you still suffer from dry skin? Perhaps your favorite morning pick-me-up is reversing the benefits of hydration. Somerville says that coffee and soda contain a lot of caffeine, which as a diuretic can lead to dehydration. “If you’re not eating right and you’re drinking a lot of coffee,” Somerville explains, “your skin is the first thing to show it.”

Despite those wise words, however, it looks like the clinical verdict is still out on this one. So it might be safe to say that you can take the back-off-the-coffee advice with a pinch of salt for now.

What are your thoughts? Does your skin looks dehydrated after a highly caffeinated morning? Can you see the benefit of drinking water?

Lean Meats Means Youthful Skin

Ever wonder why celebrities are so into eating lean proteins, nuts, and vitamin C in vast quantities? Dr. Wu says that eating protein helps boost the production of collagen and elastin, which are proteins that keep your skin taut and healthy.

The nutritional protein lysine lends a helping hand to our body’s collagen production. So for your next meal, slap some more proteins (lean meats, soy products and nuts) onto your plate. And don’t forget your daily dose of vitamin C, which is needed to convert lysine into collagen.

What about you? How do you integrate proteins into your meals? How about your snacks?

Yo-yo Nutrition and Pre-Mature Sagging

Our busy schedules often mean that we skip meals, which can lead to overindulgent food choices like mega-proportioned lunches and gigantic desserts. Healthy snacks can help us avoid the “I’m starving” vs. “I’m so ridiculously full” cycle.

Beware: yo-yo nutrition is a slippery slope towards yo-yo dieting! Fluctuating within the same 10 pounds via super-harsh diets followed with overindulgent eating can cause skin sagging. This can have more harmful effects on your skin than losing or gaining weight at a healthy rate.

To help celebrity clients stick to a healthy weight, Dr. Wu regulates their eating habits with frequent healthy snacks. For Cougar Town actress Christa Miller a healthy snack is made of pumpkin seeds, sunflower seeds, pistachios, dried cherries, and a dash of maple syrup and sprinkle of sea salt for flavoring.

What’s your fave healthy snack that helps you stave of hunger and indulgent eating?

Avoid Crash-Diet Acne

Dr. Wu once saw a patient’s diet ruin her nutrition and her complexion. Comedienne Nicole Sullivan crash dieted her way to a slim figure. Throughout her severely regimented diet, she suffered chronic cystic acne. It was only after she starting eating more healthfully that she got her skin back under control.
