13 Ways to Beat Rosacea

When rosacea attacks, it blitzes in full-force. From every direction. Redness appears because of abnormally increased blood flow to the skin. Raw flushing and bumps develop because of surface irritation. Then all these symptoms are amplified by inflammation. Your skin is assaulted from the inside as well as the outside.

This means your nutrition, your exercise, your sleep, your hormones, your skincare, your environment—everything!—can affect your rosacea.

To defeat rosacea you’ll need a well-rounded strategy that covers many fronts. In honor of National Rosacea Awareness Month, BodyLase has pulled together our best rosacea tips. Stop irritating your delicate skin and find out how to erase redness now.

External Rosacea Triggers

Avoid all external irritants. Though the source of this skin disorder is internal, external factors can greatly irritate your skin. By following some tips you might be able to drastically reduce your rosacea symptoms. Help your skin find freedom from discomfort.

  • Stay out of direct sunlight. Warmth and irritation from the sun’s rays can cause rosacea flares.
  • Humidity can disturb your rosacea. Both excess humidity and extreme dryness are reported irritants for rosacea sufferers. Try avoiding both extremes.
  • Don’t slather on a makeup or skincare product that makes your rosacea worse. Listen to your skin. If it’s telling you that it’s irritated by something, stop using it immediately.

Internal Rosacea Triggers

Many rosacea patients report food triggers. To control and minimize your rosacea symptoms, discover what your own internal triggers are.

  • A diet high in carbohydrates and sugars is a reported to cause rosacea flare-ups. These carbohydrates and sugars can cause large insulin spikes. Excess insulin can lead to inflammation.
  • Foods high in tryptophan or vitamin B3 (like coffees and cereal to name a few) stimulate prostaglandin production, which in turn causes your blood vessels to dilate.
  • Alcohol causes temporary flushing as surface blood vessels dilate. But alcohol can also cause inflammation, which contributes to lingering redness and prolonged irritation.
  • Processed foods and fast foods are filled with unsaturated vegetable oils. These are high in the linoleic acid, a type of omega-6 fatty acid that is pro-inflammatory. To avoid inflammation, it’s good to avoid foods with linoleic acid.

Rosacea Nutrition

Get to the bottom of your disorder by talking with your doctor or nutritionist about ways you could boost your anti-inflammatory response and your immune system. Avoiding pro-inflammatory nutrients while seeking out anti-inflammatory nutrients is a great start.

  • Gamma linolenic acid (GLA), another type of omega-6 fatty acid, is an anti-inflammatory nutrient unlike it’s pro-inflammatory counterpart linoleic acid. Evening primrose oil and borage oil are a great source of GLA.
  • Vitamin D3 is also identified as an important nutrient in anti-inflammatory responses. It is also said to boost your immune system.

Rosacea Skincare

Skincare is an crucial step of managing and soothing your rosacea. It can make or break your redness. Since everyone’s skin is different, it’s important to learn what products are good for your skin and what products deserve a kick to the curb.

Here are some things to look for: gentle products that don’t irritate or dry out the skin, hydrating products that relieve dryness associated with rosacea, soothing products that can calm inflammation, and camouflaging products that can conceal redness.

The following are our favorite rosacea skincare products:

Holiday Party Countdown to a Fabulous New You!

Did you company just announce the next Holiday party?

You’re probably wondering what you can do in the next 60 days to improve your appearance.

Remember that MasterCard ad from years ago? It was one of those “lace skirt, $200″, “lipstick $10″ campaigns, and the kicker was something like, “Look on high school boyfriend’s face: priceless.” It seemed to embody all the promise of the Holiday Party – the woman was so regal, so poised, so stunning, so exactly perfectly right in her lace skirt and $10 lipstick. She came, she saw, she conquered – all without trying too hard. So are holiday party expectations created.

We’ve got some suggestions so you can show up and conquer!

New Hair Style
If you’re trying out a new cut or a new stylist, schedule a 10-15 minute consultation when you book the appointment. The stylist and the colorist need to see what your hair looks like dry and styled as you typically style it. This tells them a lot: How much time you really put into your hair each day, how your hair dries and how healthy your ends are.

Even if you’re meeting with the same stylist you’ve used before, a consultation is important. The goal of a consultation is to make sure you and your stylist are on the same page before drastic changes are made to your look.

Start an Exercise program or join a gym.
Starting a fitness program may be one of the best things you can do for your health. Physical activity can reduce your risk of chronic disease, improve your balance and coordination, help you lose weight — even improve your sleep habits and self-esteem.

Buy a new outfit that is figure-flattering.
Learning how to dress for your shape is not difficult—if you know the fashion rules. Use these chic techniques to flatter your figure and embrace and dress your body, flaws and all.  Whatever, your size or shape, you’ve uncovered a fashion prescription to heal yourself from a negative body image, dress for your shape.

Spa Facial
Our luxurious facial treatments are designed to nourish, exfoliate and rejuvenate your skin. With relaxing facial, neck and scalp massage, facials are a wonderful antidote for tension and problem skin.

Obagi Skin Care
Obagi is a uniquely powerful skin care line that offers a wide range of benefits, including anti-aging and rejuvenating actions. The range features many regimens that work together to achieve a targeted goal using high-quality, potent ingredients and well-researched technologies.

The Obagi system may help: diminish the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles; increase smoothness; reduce pore size; improve elasticity; generate a balanced, even skin tone; normalize oil production; correct blemishes; reduce age spots and other hyperpigmentation; increase the skin’s own ability to hold moisture; and increase the skin’s tolerance to external factors.

Chemical Peels
These peels remove the top layer of old, dry, dead skin cells to allow the newer, younger, fresher skin cells to move to the surface. The result is a vibrant, glowing appearance and fresher skin with restored luster.

Microdermabrasion
Microdermabrasion is a non-surgical exfoliating treatment that will improve the texture and appearance of your skin.

During a Microdermabrasion treatment, a fine spray of medical-grade corundum powder crystals is showered onto your skin. These crystals are then gently suctioned away, along with the old, dead skin cells, leaving a fresh and glowing appearance. At the end of your treatment, you will be absolutely amazed at how soft and smooth your skin looks and feels!

Get Rid of Cellulite with SmartLipo

Get Rid of Cellulite with SmartLipo

Smartlipo
If you exercising isn’t getting rid of cellulite in certain areas of your body, consider SmartLipo.  This procedure is less invasive than regular liposuction but just as effective.  The downtime is minimal so you can get right back to your regular routine quickly.

Wrinkle Fillers
Erase your wrinkles with Botox and Juvederm.  These fillers are injected just under the skin around your eyes and mouth.

Ever since the FDA approved Botox for cosmetic, women (and men) have been singing Botox’s praises. The masses aren’t deterred by its short shelf life because they have found the fountain-of-youth.  The magic of Botox for stopping wrinkles where they start is blocking the nerves that contract muscles.  The result softens existing wrinkles and prevents them from deepening.

Full, Thick Eyelashes
You may be surprised to know that medical journals have linked thinning and loss of eyelashes to aging.  LATISSE® solution is a prescription treatment for thinning lashes used to grow eyelashes, making them longer, thicker and darker.

Eyelash Extensions are another way to achieve thicker, fuller, longer eyelashes.  Make your eyes stand out with new eyelash extensions.  We call them “flirtable” eyes.
